What to put under strawberries?

In the past people put dry straw under the strawbs to keep them off the ground - I have used rolled up plastic netting in the past but it doesn't do a great job. What do others do?

I’ve put strulch under mine

strulch - to help keep slugs off.

I had weed membrane last year - but the slugs hid under it - without weed membrane slug damage seems to be less this year.
