I have a mystery plant come up in my garden.
I don't remember planting anything like it..So maybe it's weed?
I am a total novice at gardening so would really appreciate some help!

Thank you!

CombatBarbie · 13/06/2022 10:02

I'd say buddlia too

It doesn't look like buddleia to me, not sure from that photo what it is though

Thegirlwithnousername · 13/06/2022 10:30

Oh the photos took so long to add the extra ones.
Thank you for the swift responses!

It looks like a steeple bush

APurpleSquirrel · 13/06/2022 10:37

I don't think its buddleia either - the flowers are too open & flouncy. Spiked Speedwell?

quesalvia · 13/06/2022 10:39

Looks like a version of a spyreia to me

Sunflowersinthewind · 13/06/2022 10:41

I ran it through Plantnet and it came up as Steeplebush

Hedgesfullofbirds · 13/06/2022 10:41

Not Buddleia, it is Spirae, probably the cultivar Douglasii

EBearhug · 13/06/2022 10:42

I thought spirea.

User76745333 · 13/06/2022 10:43

It isn't buddliea it's spiraea

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 13/06/2022 10:44

The leaves in the first pic look like buddleia to me but not the flowers. Even if it is a ‘weed’ which I could argue it is not, it is wonderful for bees and butterflies

Ruffelo · 13/06/2022 10:44

Looks like this to me... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiraea_douglasii

This is handy for identifying plants candide.com/GB I saw what I thoutht were some poppies across the road from me a couple of weeks ago and took DH's phone with the app on to take a photo. They were indeed poppies.

Thegirlwithnousername · 13/06/2022 10:52

I agree even if it's a weed it looks lovely so I am going to keep it!
Hopefully it will attract lots of bees and butterflies.

I read once that a weed is just a plant in the wrong place - so if you love it and want it then it's no longer a weed 😬

Oh I love that! It's very true - Some weeds can be lovely!

I had no idea you could use apps/websites to identify plants! - That's amazing!
I have checked two sites and they have both said Spiraea Douglasii or Rose Spirea is the other name it's known by.
Thanks everyone for the help!

I had thought spirea too.
