Two plant ID questions

Little veined leaves and clusters of white flowers (and a bit of my hand) is a slender tree a little over 2m tall with arching branches.

Very small green-and-cream leaves, new growth being very small pink-and cream leaves, is a small shrub.

Any ideas?

The second one is a salix flamingo!

Wasywasydoodah · 12/06/2022 20:12

the first looks like Dogwood. Are the stems reddish?

lynxca16 · 12/06/2022 20:17

Would the first one could be lacy hydrangea? It is a climber great for walls or fences.

MattBerrysHair · 12/06/2022 20:37

I think the first is a Cotoneaster cornubia

I've just run the photo through my plant id app- and it agrees with you!

Yes! I have one of these and it is having its best ever year. We have heavy clay soil, quite wet and it is just a joy

The second one is a salix flamingo!

And my flamingo is over seven feet tall

Dilbertian · 12/06/2022 21:22

Thank you!

The cotoneaster planted itself in my garden, and is growing up through the middle of a solanum. It's staying.

The salix flamingo is a bush I keep seeing and liking. No idea where I'd put one in my garden, but...

You can get them as trees, asda had them last week. Mine are now 3years old and are a joy to look at. They are also really easy to take cuttings from in Jan time.

Could it be a viburnum the first one. I have viburnum davidii which has different leaves but similar flowers

Coastalcreeksider · 14/06/2022 08:15

I think Viburnum for the first pic and Salix Flamingo as everyone has said for the second. My neighbour, long since died had several Salix in his garden and had them cut into a rectangular shape, they looked really lovely and the birds were always hopping around in them.

Sadly, two lots of neighbours who bought the house have not looked after them at all and they look terrible now. 🙁

Dilbertian · 14/06/2022 10:40

I also thought it was a viburnum until it changed - grew taller, but the leaves remarked tiny. I'm pretty sure it is actually the cotoneaster.
