Garden barrier

Anyone got any bright ideas for forming a barrier - either natural or man-made in the garden?

Thing is, I need to block off part of our lawn to stop my wee boy wandering onto the road. It's about 12 ft wide (the lawn not my boy). He's 14 months and is tearing about like a thing possessed.

Any advice warmly received!

Thanks!

Whats the soil/sun like? (as if I am an expert).
How about an ugly chicken wire fence, which you could then cover with something like honeysuckle or clematis, I am pretty sure there is an evergreen variety or two.

Really heavy clay soil. 9I'm no Alan Titchmarsh either

Ahh, that's a good idea! - thanks! Make an asset of it by growing trailing plants through it. Never thought of that!
