  1. pyracantha?
  2. no sure
  3. penstemon
  4. eunonyme?
Thehonestybox · 03/06/2022 14:54

1 is hedging
2 is a tree/weed
3 is a weed
4 is a nice bush type plant

Sorry don't know the names though! But I would pull out 2 and 3

sunshinesupermum · 03/06/2022 14:57

Agree that no 3 is a weed!

Billybagpuss · 03/06/2022 16:33

I’m fairly certain 3 is penstemon not a weed it’s pretty

ahunf · 03/06/2022 16:42

I'm pretty sure I planted all 4 so I don't think any are weeds but I could be wrong.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 03/06/2022 16:43

1 looks like a pyracantha (all the photos are a little blurry!!)
2 looks like a v small cherry
3 not sure
4 euonymus

yesthatisdrizzle · 03/06/2022 16:48

1 looks like hedging lonicera to me.
2 dunno
3 weed - probably willowherb
4 euonymus

Quinque · 03/06/2022 17:08

4 is definitely euonymus, 3 could be phlox. My phlox look similar to 3 at the moment whereas my penstemons have flower buds.
I would have thought that pyracantha would be in flower now. 2 does look like a cherry leaf.
Plantnet is a good app for plant ID. It's free and you can select leaves, stems, flowers etc and it gives a list of likely options.

SlatsandFlaps · 03/06/2022 17:57

2 Looks like Beech to me. I'm probably way off so I'd advise waiting for someone else to confirm!

beeswaxbonnie · 03/06/2022 18:10

Put these through PictureThis app on my phone, according to the app

  1. Jerusalem thorn
  2. Pin cherry / bird cherry
  3. Willowherb
  4. Creeping Jenny

Not sure how accurate that is though!!

Ferngreen · 03/06/2022 18:41

Lonicera - the evergreen hedging one
Cherry sapling or similar ( is there any growing nearby)
Weed
Yes prob creeping Jenny , unless a shrub, euonymus, or some sort of privet hard to tell size of plant

CottonSock · 03/06/2022 19:19
  1. Beech
  2. Willowherb

Both guessing :)

EBearhug · 03/06/2022 19:44

3 lookslike rosebay willowherb to me. (Weed.)

FictionalCharacter · 03/06/2022 19:55

3 definitely looks like rosebay willowherb. It will be all over your garden if you let it!

WobblyLondoner · 03/06/2022 20:02

I don't think 4 is creeping Jenny - another vote for euonymus here.

And 3 does look like willow herb.

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/06/2022 09:12

1 is not hedging Lonicera because all the loniceras have leaves in opposite pairs. Possibly a cotoneaster.

2 is a Prunus (cherry) sapling, not beech.

3 is an Epilobium, willowherb. Most people would treat it as a weed.

4 is a bit of a mystery. It looks like a variegated Euonymus but appears to have two yellow flowers, which rules out Euonymus. I’m not aware of a variegated creeping jenny, only ones with plain yellow-green leaves

Plantapps - ok as a starting point for further research, but they’re merely picture matching, so can make quite massive mistakes. Don’t treat their answers as definitive.

gavisconismyfriend · 04/06/2022 09:15
  1. might be a variegated oregano?
AlisonDonut · 04/06/2022 09:20

My suggestion, take 4 better photos and don't merge them into one tiny image as the way that mumsnet compresses things makes it impossible to really see.

Make sure that the image is focused on the plant in question.

Then repost all 4 pics.

ahunf · 04/06/2022 09:45

Yes sorry I wanted to try and hide the rest of my garden 😂

You've all been helpful though thank you.

Number 3 looks a lot like Rosebay Willow herb. Even if there is a small chance that this is what it is, I would remove it. I had a planter with a wildflower mix last year and it was full of willow herb. This year my lawn is completely destroyed. Covered in the stuff. It's quite easy to pull out but my goodness, it grows quickly.

SpiderVersed · 05/06/2022 10:56

Willow herb is a sneaky wee bastard, gets everywhere.

ahunf · 05/06/2022 17:42

Do you have to get rid of willow herb. I had it last year and I like the flowers just not the whispy white bits.

I've seen people sell it on Etsy?

Do you have to get rid of willow herb

No, but it can spread madly and take over everything else, so that's the choice you're making.
