Gaps leylandi hedge

Hi... could anyone give any advice on gaps in a leylandi hedge please? Overly enthusiastic and unknowledgeable pruning has resulted in gaps at bottom and top of the hedge. Can i plant some kind of filler that would grow and fill in the gaps? The challenge would be further annual pruning without harming the new plants i guess but keen to do something as it looks somewhat forlorn in places.

Don't worry - it will put out new shoots which you can trim back as needed. Indestructible little (big) blighter
