Not sure if it’s just the picture, it seems a bit squashed, yet the image is stretched, on my iPad. I think it’s just how I can see pics on this site now!

anyhow, it looks like a black elder to me

Does it smell like Elderflower? You can make cordial. (Please double check though… I don’t want to be responsible for poisoning).

Thank you
That's it in the link you sent
It's in neighbours garden always looks lovely year on year.
May get one now but don't want it overtake my garden

I bought one last year after seeing it on a gardening programme. Too new to flower yet but it’s knee height at the moment and the leaves are a stunning colour.

do your neighbours cut it back each year? I wasn’t brave enough to cut it back to ground level with it being so new but will do it next spring.

Oxo01 · 28/05/2022 10:06

Yourearealboy
It has not been touched for years its just been left to grow
It's lovely .

Interesting. Seemingly cutting back encourages it to grow?
maybe I’ll cut half leave half & see!
it’s actually mid thigh height, hadn’t realised it had grown so much.

Oxo01 · 28/05/2022 15:53

I read that as well
Found this video
i think she says different ways as also grow on dead wood.
Unless I'm misunderstanding
But neighbours home is rented for 2 or 3 years then different tenants come, none of the occupiors have ever touched it and its grown and lovely.
I wo der if cuttings from it would work ?
I am deciding who to buy from now.

The latin name is Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' which might help you locate it. Many garden centres stock them and they are relatively cheap for a smaller one.

Yamadori
Than you , I see lots of places to buy online just some say what size pots they come in some say size of plant bought . But defiantly buying 1 after admiring neighboring garden one fir years .

I don’t think I visualised it getting quite so big!
I think I may have to dig it up and move it.

Oxo01 · 28/05/2022 17:14

Yourearealboy
I think I would just trim it to what size you want for now, then see how it grows .
