I have two honeysuckle plants next to each on trellis. The one on the left is lush and thriving yet the one on the right is sparse with leaves dying!!! Any idea why this might be? The only thing I can think is that it's on a slope leaning down to the right...

So the questions I would ask myself are:

  • are they the same variety?
  • are they they same age?
  • is the amount of sun they receive different, e.g. is one in the shade of a nearby building or plant?
  • if you probe the soil is the soil the same wetness/consistency?

Sometimes plants do vary, sometimes it is their environment.

Where did they come from? Honeysuckle is a hedgerow plant and generally likes quite loamy soil where it competes with other plants for nutrients. It develops deep roots.

Could one be planted in builders rubble? I know it doesn't like too much lime, which there would be in cement waste.
