A colony of something has laid an awful lot of eggs on my recently planted mock orange. I’ve absolutely no idea what they are and wondered if any wise MNers could advise? TIA!

Black bean aphid?

Blackfly, a type of aphid. Spray with diluted washing up liquid.

Or just nip off the affected tips.

Insects etc breathe through their skin, spraying with water with a wetting agent such washing up liquid will drown them, but will also kill any beneficial insects in the area sprayed.

I just squish them between my fingers, but appreciate that's not for everyone! If you do spot a ladybird around relocate them to your aphidy plant.
