Looks like foxgloves to me although my first thought was primrose

Mykittensmittens · 21/05/2022 14:09

Thanks. I agree the veined leaf does look like a primrose but isn’t it a bit late for one to appear?

I’d say foxglove. Primroses are a bit more rounded at the ends of leaves, I think.

BridgesofMadisonfan · 21/05/2022 14:23

I think primrose

SoupDragon · 21/05/2022 14:24

I think it's too late for primrose - mine were up at least a month ago and have now finished and are dying back

Mykittensmittens · 21/05/2022 16:39

Thank you. We live backing onto woods so foxglove is possible. But the ones we have are massive compared to this little thing. My primroses are massive and a different shaped leaf.

I’m going to leave it alone and see what happens - it’s all an experiment I guess!

Borage

grxxxx · 21/05/2022 16:43

Wrong shape for primrose and late
salvia ?

Wallywobbles · 21/05/2022 16:52

Lemon verbena?

Wallywobbles · 21/05/2022 16:53

What do the crushed leaves smell like?

londonmummy1966 · 21/05/2022 16:57

Its probably a first year self seeded foxglove - as they are biennials they only produce leaves in the first year and flower in the second. This is why the leaves are small.

Lemon verbena?

???

Definitely not Lemon Verbena. Or primrose.

I think one of the plants has flowers forming there at the top which makes me thing Borage. Foxglove leaves are smoother.

LiveintheNow · 21/05/2022 17:14

Verbascum?

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 21/05/2022 17:26

Primula? Hollyhock?

Shinyandnew1 · 21/05/2022 17:28

It looks like a primula/primrose but mine have all flowered and gone by now.

Wallywobbles · 22/05/2022 07:50

Turns out I meant lemon balm.

Definitely not primrose (leaves not all in a single rosette, and the wrong shape), foxglove (too wrinkly) or borage. Think @Wallywobbles is nearest as I think it’s in the mint family, although not lemon balm. Does it have any sort of smell? Is the stem round or square?

nythbran2 · 22/05/2022 10:16

Houndstongue - borage family, wildflowerfinder.org.uk/Flowers/H/Houndstongue/Houndstongue.htm

Halsall · 22/05/2022 15:54

Another vote for borage from me.
