Looking for suggestions please

My mum died recently and my dad and I would like to make her grave look nice.

We were thinking of buying some nice plants and place them still in the pots in a hole on the top of the earth of the grave. This would mean they will be easy to remove in a year or so when the grave will be ready for the headstone.

I'm not a gardener at all so I'm looking for suggestions of plants that will be attractive, not too big and won't need watering daily over the summer.

We used heathers for this at my grandmother's grave. They have seemed happy and there are lots of varieties you could choose.
