Hello, I have this plant/weed all over my garden this year. Any idea what it is? I feel like I should know because I must have had some last year, but now it's rampant!

Could it be oriental poppy? They self seed like crazy.

caringcarer · 06/05/2022 16:38

Looks lovely me a type of fern.

hedgehogger1 · 06/05/2022 16:43

Looks nothing like a fern to me! Could it be a thorn apple?

WhatNoReally · 06/05/2022 16:44

It could well be an oriental poppy @florentina1@florentina1 I say 'it's but there are hundreds of the buggers. I'll probably pull them up.

Looks like deadnettle to me. There's a huge amount of it near us this year.

WhatNoReally · 06/05/2022 17:13

I'm pretty sure they will be poppies. I won't get rid of the lot and will report back in a month or so!

The pics are a bit small. But they look like nettles to me

PrettyMaybug · 06/05/2022 17:22

Actually the second pic looks like nettles. Is it the same plant on both pics?

PrettyMaybug · 06/05/2022 17:22

The first pic doesn't look like nettles really. Not sure what it is though.

Wrong leaves for poppies, oriental or otherwise. Don’t think it’s any oftge suggestions so far, but flowers would help.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 07/05/2022 09:36

Definitely not poppy imo. Could be nettle leaved bellflower.

WhatNoReally · 07/05/2022 15:50

It's not a nettle. The bellflower seems like a good call.

PlantNet says hemp for the first picture (nettle as second choice) and honesty for the second, but with low confidence (3-7%)!

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 07/05/2022 16:11

It's not honesty!

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 07/05/2022 16:13

And hemp looks like cannabis with several leaves coming from a central point in a circle - nothing like this one.

SierraSapphire · 07/05/2022 17:04

Yes, I didn't think Plantnet had got it right, but it's interesting it couldn't identify it.

Or in botanical terms, it has palmate leaves (ie compound leaves with several leaflets all arising from the same point) 😉

I think nettle leaved bellflower is the only possibility from suggestions so far. There’s enough in the pics to reject all the other suggestions

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 08/05/2022 16:18

Thanks @MereDintofPandiculation for the enlightenment, as ever 😚😃

WhatNoReally · 08/05/2022 19:35

I found a more mature one with the flower buds. Definitely looks like the bellflow @BewareTheBeardedDragon mentioned.

😀

MereDintofPandiculation · 09/05/2022 09:38

Yes, that’s a Campanula (bellflower) bud. All the campanulas have them, very distinctive
