Hi, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experience of these trees, been given a 4ft high young tree for free and I don't know whether it is a good idea to plant or not to plant. How much space around it would it require? I have googled and realise they can grow very large, can they be controlled to grow smaller? How long do they take to reach sizeable spread? Any advice really, I haven't a clue, even after looking it up, unsure.

Hi, plant any tree in a large container and it can't grow too big. You can do that while you research anyway.

I had one and in the 22 years I lived in that house it barely grew at all. It was about 7 foot tall with about 5 branches.

We've had one in our garden for about 20-25 years. It's only about 6 feet tall and about 4 ft across. DH keeps it pruned at that size - it's not even very dense, and the leaves look so attractive. Never had any problems with it regarding getting out of control.

Thank you very much for the responses, so safe enough to plant it sounds like 😀
