Hi,
i’ve just bought this wisteria from Sainsbury’s and then read up a little bit and realised that not all varieties are suitable for growing against a wall.
Can anyone tell me which variety this is please?
Thanks

are you sure that they’re not suitable for a wall rather than that some varieties cope better with attempting to make them freestanding?

Given that that one says “trellis” I think you could assume it’s OK on a wall

Hi OP, did you find out which type your wisteria is? I picked up the same one yesterday and have the same question! I thought I may try it in a large pot against the wall.

Hi OP, I've just picked up the same plant from sainsburys a year later. Did you figure out the variety? I was trying to Google to find out. Has it flowered for you successfully? Thanks

Oh I do hate the way supermarkets put general labels on plants! Often they are bargains, but then there’s all the Googling to identify them.
I bought a large Calithea for £6 in the Co-op yesterday. It was labelled ‘Green Foliage Plant’.
Sorry not much help on the Wisteria, but sounds like the wall growing variety.

There seem to be a lot of Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls' about at the moment - all the supermarkets have them.

I think this is Amethyst Falls, it was given a short haircut last year and seems to be enjoying the wet spring (this is south facing)

Thank you, just wish I could share the smell, it's divine!
