What are these bugs on my raspberry plant? (Pics)

I noticed a few last summer but the plant seemed healthy enough so I didn’t think much about it, although in hindsight it didn’t produce as much fruit as usual.

Now the stems are infested! I have wiped off as many as I can but think they are likely to just come back. They are hard shells and have yellowy mush inside when squashed. Any ideas on what they are and how to treat?

They look like Coccidae they have attacked my hydrangea plants before, you can try to wipe them off but I've tended to just throw the plant out in when they've taken hold but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to give better advice!

I think they are a type of scale insect like Mozzarella suggests. I had to wipe mine off with an old toothbrush.

Thanks both! I will keep trying to remove and seek out some of the sprays the RHS link suggests.
