Lawn seed, recommendations please

Our back lawn has been decimated by ds & his football over autumn & winter! It’s got bare, ugly mud patches. We actually got it looking quite good last summer. We put the same grass seed down a few weeks ago & it’s done nothing - I think it was too early as we had that cold snap after.

Now the weather is warming up a bit we’re going to try again in a few weeks to seed the lawn again. Any recommendations for a good quality lawn seed? And a top soil to cover?

Hands down, the best seed I have come across for this is from Boston Seeds - www.bostonseeds.com/products/grass-seeds/sports-and-pitches/

BUT the smallest bag is 20kg and so is £100 (ish). However, we bought one bag and each year would overseed the lawn with it - and the seed kept very well for 5 years of this. So not as uneconomical as it first sounds. We also bought the fertilise and used it twice a year.

Even if you don't want such a high £ outlay, then I think it's still worth buying a seed for sport/high traffic.

Sprogs and dogs lawn seed is good and reasonably well priced. It is a mix of grasses to be hard wearing.
