Sarah ravens site is really inspiring. A bit too inspiring in that I end up buying too much!

I am not very inspired when it comes to hanging baskets as I find them a real faff to keep going, so I always plant the same thing, white trailing geraniums. They are very forgiving if you are not good at watering, don’t get greenfly/ other pests, keep going for ages into the autumn (I am London so other places might be different) and last for a couple of years before they get too straggly even for me.

I do admire those huge balls of colour other people manage to cultivate, but think gorgeous hanging baskets are for people with a lot of time to spare!

I'm a bit obsessed with hanging baskets.

My top tip is to cut a circle of plastic out of a shopping bag and sit it in the bottom few inches to act as a bit of a water-catcher.

I cram loads in my baskets. I like having something like creeping jenny to trail with lots of length, plenty of lobelia, fuchsia, petunia, then geraniums for some height in the middle.

I buy the pre-filled hanging baskets from
J Parkers each year, they look wonderful
