I have a patch of hollyhocks by my front door and front window. They are glorious in bloom. They do however get far too high (as high as the ground floor extension!) and become impossible to manage.
Anyone chopped them at this stage/time of year to control their height? I don't want to ruin my chances of flowers. But when they get too tall they also look straggly and a mess. I was thinking of putting pots in front to hide the bottom leaves (next to a path). Or has anyone managed to prevent rust?
