Please identify this flower / weed for me

I see this growing on stone walls by my house and love it. I would like to grow some on an old brick wall out the back of my house at the end of the garden. The wall gets moderate to low sunshine, so not even sure if it's an option. I do have a few other sunnier walls I could utilise if it needs it.

It's probably far too late in the season to do anything with this now, but I would love to know what I can do to grow this for next year

Is it Aubretia ?

TulipsGarden · 28/03/2022 21:45

It's aubretia. You'll be able to get it in garden centres at the moment.

@LadyEloise1

Is it Aubretia ?

Oh yes! Thank you. I've just googled that and it certainly looks like it. It just looks so pretty training down the walls in little patches

Thank you. How would I go about growing it on a wall though?

Aubretia.
Experience has taught me that if I plant it then it turns up its toes. However it grows like wildfire around the kitchen drain and along a bit of wall.

Yes, Aubrieta, actually a member of the brassicacaea (cabbage) family - there are many, many varieties with large and small flowered varieties in colours ranging from magenta, lilac and blue to a pale pink. Grows well in rocky places, crevices and dry stone walls and prefers full sun, but will also tolerate partial shade.
An alternative for growing in walls is Mexican Fleabane ( Erigeron karvinskianus)

I've planted it and it has died and yet it grows happily on bare walls Shock

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 28/03/2022 22:46

Thanks all. I want it to grow on bare walls. But have no idea how to get it to grow. Is there a way I can prep the walls and plant seed on it?

I planted some yesterday in the garden that had been in a pot.

Today I noticed that the cat has half buried it while digging a hole for his morning poo!

Hopefully it will survive ... Hmm
