What shall I plant in my planter?

I'm getting a new wooden planter delivered next week. Exciting times.

But I have no idea what to plant in it. It'll be against a bare brick wall so I'm after something a bit bushy which contrasts well with red brick.

The planter will be 1m long so I think I'll need three plants in there.

My garden is east-facing so lots of morning sun, shade by about 1pm.

I'd like evergreens. And I'm after something which will grow to about 1m tall or so.

I'd looked at camellias but they don't like morning sun. I've also looked at crispy pink photinia but I have quite a lot of pink going on already in my garden. My other thought was three hebes but they don't grow very tall I don't think.

What do you recommend, please?

Somthing varigated might be nice. There's quite a few variegated evergreens e.g a pittisporums.

Next door to me they have a white birch in a container against a red wall - it looks stunning all year round. They know they'll probably have to get rid of it after about 10 years as it'll outgrow the spot but it really is stunning.

There might be an acer happier in a pot with good stems - like the green one or a snake bark one. So the stem provide the interest in winter.

I'm loving watching my acer sango kaku unfolding now against a white wall - and in the winter the red stems glow.

I'd want something flowery but I like a bit of flowers - like an abelia.

Another thought - white bamboo.

Or 3 topiary yew.

These are great suggestions, thank you! I was thinking something more bush--like than tree-like though if that makes sense. White bamboo is gorgeous Smile

Pieris?

Ooooh, I didn't know what pieris was but it looks beautiful. I think my neighbour has this too and it looks lovely
