Most strongly scented white shrubs

Please?
Up to 3 metres in height.
White flowers and STRONG scent please.

I know philadelphus tends to be very fragrant but this seems to flower quite early in the year and not for all that long according to my googling?

I was hoping for something with a longer flowering period or a summer flowering shrub I can plant with the philadelphus.

How much sun do you get? If you get a decent amount how about a repeat flowering white shrub rose?

This one has a strong 'old rose' scent and if you deadhead it you should get flowers over a prolonged period, right up to the autumn.
You could also add a Choisya, I always get two flushes of flowers on mine, one in the spring and another in late summer- the scent is amazing! Again, this will need a decent amount of sun to bloom to its full potential.

Daphnes smell beautiful, this one has white flowers and blooms over a long period:

Finally you could also add a sarcococca for some winter flowers and scent

Osmanthus, but it is spring flowering. How about a repeat flowering climbing rose, Star Jasmine and summer flowering Jasmine.

Most of the strongly scented shrubs just flower in one flush apart from some roses.
I think Choisia flowers for a bit longer than some and smells like like like philadelphus.

White lilac
Gardenia

grey12 · 21/03/2022 13:50

Jasmine?

gingerhills · 21/03/2022 14:07

Daphne
Jasmine
Lilac

Or look for a very pale honeysuckle?

White lilac
Winter flowering honeysuckle (it’s a shrub not a climber and its scent is amazing)
trachelospermum jasminoides, simply stunning perfume but is a climber

So many good suggestions thank you!

The spot gets a lot of sun, so much in fact that certain plants actually don’t do so well there as it’s just too hot.

I absolutely adore both honeysuckle and roses but I already have both plants in abundance in the garden.
I love them but looking for something different for this particular spot

I am loving the fragrance of my Skimmia Japonica which I've got in a pot by the back door at the moment. Lovely dainty white flowers, and evergreen as well. Although it is Spring and not summer flowering.

Buddleia Davidii White Profusion (or White Bouquet) - highly scented and flowering June/July to September - and will cope with a sunny spot!

SarahJinx · 24/03/2022 21:18

Orange blossom? Jasmine, both snell wonderful

viques · 24/03/2022 22:02

Daphne is wonderfully scented for spring, jasmine for summer, with some pots of nicotiana then for winter you could have sarcococca and a winter honeysuckle.

I love jasmine and I have a white lilac that has got to over 4m tall more like a tree so I can't smell it as much now because the blooms are too high up!

I'm also after a new plant. Gonna check out the viburnam, that looks spot on!
