Hi hope this is the correct place, Ive never grown anything and Just wanted tips on how to grow the things we eat a lot of, I only have a small patio garden,no soil, but gets a lot of sun, and shady parts, so things I could grow in pots, most interested in tomatoes and strawberries, herbs, and anything else really I could start as I'm not sure if Ive left it too late or where to start even, thanks so much :)
Complete novice but keen to start with a couple this year 😂

Trial and error is how most of us learn.

Maybe start with getting some tomato grow bags and a few pots for herbs. There is a particular type of pot you can get for growing strawberries in. Have a look on Facebook marketplace for people getting rid locally to you.

The main thing you have to remember once things get going is to water them all regularly as pots can dry out quickly in sun, so it helps if you have an outside tap for that.

I'm also a novice but most herbs have grown really easily for me. Lemon thyme attracted every slug in the garden but my new one is doing fine in a pot with a few inches of copper tape at the top now (and is well worth growing, smells amazing). Somehow I've struggled with mint. Every time I plant it I get mint rust, even with new soil and different pots. Other than that, all of my herbs have done really well. Fennel is my favourite as I also use it as a filler for bouquets.

I bought some own brand water crystals from Wilko to help during heatwaves. Very cheap but very effective. I have them in all of my pots. I just put a teaspoon or two in a jug and fill up with water then wait until they've expanded.
