Artificial grass over concrete

Has anyone ever laid down artificial grass straight onto concrete without putting down sand or any other underlay?

I have a large area of poured concrete that I am trying to smarten up.
It has cracks, is several inches thick and we will never be able to afford to replace it with decking or slabs. I thought an off-the-roll length of artificial grass might be the answer, although husband has said we'd be as well putting down a piece of cheap carpet if wanting to avoid properly installing the artificial stuff. Any thoughts?

I was considering doing this in my garden as the patio is awful it’s a council house and there is no way I am spending money on replacing the patio, I’ve heard mixed opinions on whether it works ok or not though, I’ve heard drainage can be an issue...

We put some down over patio 3 years ago and it still looks good, far better than where it is over muddy area. Although when we put it down, it was just a stop gap until our puppy had outgrown digging.

I am now recalling huge old green carpet a neighbour gave us, which I never used. It would have been perfect. But not good in rain I suppose.

Mindymomo Does it move about a lot?

I don't think it would work. Probably better to avoid artificial (terrible for the environment anyway) and brighten up the area some other way e.g. planters or painting (?).

I’ve heard mixed things on the drainage issue, it’s something I’ve wanted to try but haven’t wanted to waste my money incase it didn’t work
