Garden focal point

I have a picture window in my lounge over looking the garden. I want to install either a pond or art or some amazing tree / shrub to give the garden a focal point from the window. It's a south facing garden, we're at the top of a hill in South Yorkshire so it can be very breezy and cold. Any recommendations?

How about a pond with a sculpture on the far bank that will be reflected in the water?

How large is your garden?

A sundial on a plinth.

You could go for one of those windmill things, I got one for my parents and it's lovely.

This kind of thing

Please don't get a fire pit. Environmental and health nightmare that makes neighbours' lives a misery with horrible stinky smoke.

I would go for a lovely tree. I think a pond would be tricky as you wouldnt get the best view from your window. A lovely tree with year round interest would be fab though.

An amelanchier gives you blossom and great autumn foliage but not very special during the winter. A silver birch would at least give you winter interest but I'm not expect on which species would suit your location. You do want a bit of mystery to draw you out.

Parrotia persica - nice tree , spreads branches wide , nice autumn colour, I'm in Scotland and it's growing well (if slowly - poor soil)
