Plant suggestions for sunny border

Hi, my garden was trashed by builders this year so I'm starting again with lawn and making the bed bigger. It's a sunny border, lovely soil. I already have some mature shrubs along the fence. I want to put things like echinacea, asters and rudbeckia in, for more actual flowers. I think these are perennials so will die down to nothing over winter. I'm stuck for ideas on what I can put in with these for a bit of green through the winter... Any suggestions welcome!

Grasses work well with the flowers you mention and provide winter interest. Look at prairie planting and Piet Oudolf

Looking at the evergreens in my sunny border:

Choisya Ternata Sundance
Phlomis Fruticosa
Phlomis Italica
Carex Everillo
Lavender
Sage
Artemisia Powys Castle (but it is a bit scruffy just now)
Cistus
Stachys Lanata

Hebes
New Zealand Myrtle (they come in lovely purple foliage shades, such as Lophomyrtus Magic Dragon
Ceanothus
Dogwoods - not so much green as those lovely firey coloured stems
Camelias

there's a book called brillian and wild a garden from scratch in a year. Which has some excellent idea for sunny borders (not so good for shade!).

In my sunny beds the evergreens are:

Lavender
Convulvulus cneorum (love this)
Erigeron
Grasses (the ones I have go crazy in the summer though and look a mess)
Hebe topiaria
I also have Star Jasmine and Plumbago as evergreen climbers

About to put in an artemisia “nana”

I've got Sisirynchum that's evergreen, hellebores, some of the penstemons.
