Did I plant them too shallow? Or is it cause it’s been warm. Anyone else had the same?

Because they're iris reticulata that flower at this time year?

Level75 · 01/02/2022 17:17

First flowers of the year for me. Iris Katharine Hodgkin.

Where in the country are you? It's probably due to the unseasonably warm weather. Are they in a sheltered spot?

XingMing · 01/02/2022 17:43

My reticulatas are nearly in bloom... a few more days, and so are the camellias, snowdrops, primroses and some early daffs in sheltered spots.

Ok that makes sense I guess, but on the back of the bulb box is says May-June, which is why I asked. Maybe a few stray made it in

What are they called? Iris reticulata don't flower in May-June, they're early spring flowers... late winter if it's mild (which it has been).

ImprobablePuffin · 02/02/2022 00:58

Mine are coming up too. My first foray into bulbs so I'm pretty chuffed

Mine flower in May to June usually, but are almost flowering now. We put it down to the unseasonably warm weather.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/02/2022 08:33

There were some out at Wisley so it must be the weather or type they are.

RampantIvy · 02/02/2022 08:35

We have had a mild winter so far, and my camelia has started to bloom. It usually flowers in March/April.

Camellias are in bud, maples coming into leaf already and we’ve two bright purple osteospermum flowers!

Plenty of Camellias in full flower at the garden centre I work with, but they're under a canopy so slightly more sheltered.

Iris reticulata and another one that is slightly taller whose name has just disappeared from my head (not needed for RHS exam in 4 days so...) are in flower now
