Climber to cover garage

This is the view from our house of the garden. Dominated by the garage. I'm going to paint and tidy up the pergola, plant up the beds at the front of it, paint the garage and put some evergreens in pots on the paving in front. It gets lots of sun in summer. There's a dodgy clematis montana on the pergola at the moment.

I was thinking of planting something at the back (there's a bit of ground at the back that is otherwise unused - backs on to neighbours garage.) Or in one of the beds at the front. To climb over the top and hide the roof.

No idea is that is practical or not. Maintenance will be tricky so was hoping for something that doesn't need me to get big ladders out and prune every year.

Or should I just rejuvenate the Montana and start trying to train it up.

you can cut clematis back quite hard.
give it a shrub feed when the first leaves appear.

other nice climbers are honeysuckle or jasmin. some
there are evergreen jasmin that are nice.

roses and wisteria are nice in the summer but bare in the winter. similar climbing wine or climbing hydrangea.

Do you think a honeysuckle would get big enough to go over the roof?

i would never get a wisteria again as it gets far too aggressive. rejuvenate the clemitis. what colour would you paint the garage wall ? a nice bluey/green perhaps. passion vine loves sun. i’d also go for long flowering sun loving flowers in the bed like cosmos.

honeysuckle might want a bit more shade, but put it in and see how it goes if that’s what you want !
