Hanging Basket Watering System

Hello. I realise that this is a funny time of year to ask about this, but I'm struggling with SAD and very much trying to look forward to spring and summer.

We live in a little house and the garden is my pride and joy. I work long hospital shifts and have a toddler and a teenager so life can get a little hectic - it's been known for us to totally forget to water the garden of an evening. Obviously hanging baskets are unable to retain a lot of water and don't take kindly to being neglected in the watering stakes.

So, I'm looking for a cheap irrigation system that uses a timer that would water the baskets morning and evening. I have an outdoor tap, so I wouldn't need one to pump from anything.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Money is tight so the cheaper the better! Our garden is about 27'x12' so shouldn't need anything too extravagant!

I'm aware that our postage stamp of a garden is quite different to what most on Mumsnet have, but I cannot overstate what a difference our tiny oasis made to life under lockdown living in a deprived inner city area.

Thanks.

We have a Hozelock system that works on a mechanical timer on the tap. The initial set up wasn’t that cheap, but you can add and extend it later.
Maybe if you shop around they’ll be cheaper as it’s winter.

Ah! That looks like it'll work, and it's well within budget - thank you very much!

Also think about what you are planting in your baskets. I hate watering baskets so always plant mine up with trailing geraniums, which not only look lovely but are very forgiving when it comes to water. Put water retaining granules in the compost and make sure the basket is lined with a plastic inner lining with as few holes for drainage as you can get away with.

Trailing geraniums sound lovely!
