Planting out a local garlic from veg box

I got 5 heads of garlic in my veg box from the field around the corner from my house. Can I split one into cloves and plant them?

I'd say go for it! Put them under the soil with just a tiny little bit of the tip sticking out of the top, and they should put out a green shoot.

Thank you, I guess the most I have to loose is a bulb of garlic so might as well give it a shot

Yes you can just plant them out but they should be an inch under the surface and if you want a good crop you may want/need to mulch them to protect from frost depending on where you are

Or you could just pulp the garlic and freeze it on an ice cube tray/similar sized lumps on a sheet of baking paper for use whenever.

Thank you, I will cover over and mulch. I’d like to try and grow it if possible as have space to grow in the garden for the first time ever.
