Good tree to put in a huge pot....

It's round and about 3 foot wide and 2.5 foot deep. Plastic but I'm going to spray it cast iron colour.

I've got a spot for it where whatever is in it can hide the oil tank. Evergreen would be good but deciduous is fine as in the winter we aren't in that bit of the garden anyway.

I was thinking of something tree like and tall and airy. Thinking maybe silver birch as I love the leaves. The sun catches the end of the garden it will go in in the late afternoon early evening.

How much sun does that area get? I have a dwarf eucalyptus in a sunny spot and two acers in shaded spots that are all doing well in pots. I used water crystals In the potting mix and only have to water the acers during very dry spells.

I saw an episode of gardeners world the other day where someone had an Indian bean tree growing on rooted stock so it stayed compact. It was really stunning.

We have black bamboo in our massive pot. It's great for creating a screen effect.

My experience with tall trees in pots, even huge pots, is that they will fall over in heavy winds.

So I'd go for something bushy or multi-stemmed, or at least not too tall.

Good point on the not too tall. Indian bean tree is a good shout.

We have 2 small pear trees in (large) pots. Haven't fallen over yet and we've had them for a few years now. Bonus is fruit. You do need to water and feed them regularly.

We had W beautiful olive tree 🌲 n a large pot. I think they're evergreen

An Amelanchier would work well. Silver Birch would probably get too tall and be unstable.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/11/2021 09:04

Maple, or a fruit tree?

An acer? You can get more bushy versions or more tree like versions - I think some varieties are ok in a big pot.

Bamboo is brilliant if you're wanting screening.
