Plants with year round interest

I have a couple of pots on a small patio at the bottom of the garden which I’d like to fill with something that provides year round interest. I’ve identified a beautyberry as one candidate, any other suggestions?

How big are the pots, and how much sun do they get?

Skimmia “Reevesi” . Skimmias are evergreen with sweetly and strongly scented flowers in spring. Usually you need a female plant for berries and a male plant to pollinate it, but the variety above will have berries without needing a male bush.

Euphorbia martinii ascot rainbow looks stunning all year round. Lovely neat mound of variegated foliage and beautiful bracts flowering in spring that persist into early summer. It'll put up with most conditions too :)
