Can you ID this thin, small red leaved-tree on the verge?

I guess it may be an Acer-style thing, but it has berries in the picture - do Acers have berries?

Not quite a tree, it has a shrub like imprecise quality around the base. The pictures are current. I'd quite like one like that in my back garden.

I'd say it's a rowan.

LiveintheNow · 15/11/2021 10:45

Sorbus which includes rowan, lots of variations, some with pink berries

Beamur · 15/11/2021 10:46

I'd say Rowan too

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/11/2021 10:46

Came on to say maybe rowan, too.

PatientPatty · 15/11/2021 10:47

It will grow into a tree.

NewspaperTaxis · 15/11/2021 10:55

Oh, no, what a large one, @PatientPatty ? I kind of like it the way it is. I suppose I should just Google Images 'Rowan' shouldn't I, and avoid the Blackadder pictures.

I feel if I got one I'd be like that family who buy a puppy dog and then finds it takes up half the lounge.

I mean, the first one I've now pictured from the 'net looks okay, larger of course, but then the second one is pretty large? I can't see the second one being allowed on a verge on a residential road, but does this mean there are different kind of Rowan trees?

Yes you can get different varieties. They are small trees, relatively speaking!

Lovely Rowan. Birds like redwings will be eating the berries if they haven't already. Amazing tree. You can get smaller ornamental ones with different coloured berries whereas the native one with red berries is smashing if you have space. As trees are so slow growing & can be pruned when young, go for it!

Yes definitely looks like a Rowan, there are different varieties, berries ranging from bright red to orangey colours. They look a bit thin and sad just now that most of the leaves and berries are falling, and maybe this is a young one.

Thanks, everyone!
