Patio weeds . Ideas please

Hi all

I moved into my house 3 years ago. We have a patio in the garden that is just slabs with weeds growing through the gaps, no grout. The slabs are uneven in places. I would love a new patio done properly but can't afford it right now . Any wisdom on how to fix my weed through the gaps issue cheaply? I don't have time to be on my hands and knees constantly weeding it with a baby to look after. Many thanks 💕

Shamelessly place marking as I have the same issue!

If you don't want to use Glyphosate an organic alternative could be vinegar or you could simply pour boiling water on them periodically

Same issue. Basically I ended up blasting them out with a jet wash as I was cleaning the patio anyway. Then I bought a mortar mix, got on my hands and knees and filled in all the gaps and we are talking about a lot. You have to work quickly and I went through quite a lot of mortar but I think it looks pretty good considering and a lot better than before.
Someone told me weeds can even find their way through mortar eventually, but several weeks later it is still clear.

You can buy sand with chemicals in to stop the weeds and brush it over the patio until it's filled the cracks. Not tried it though.

I just purchased some Rock Salt that you use to grit the paths when it’s icy.
In the reviews lots of people said the used it to kill weeds on paths and patios

Buy some ammonium sulphamate, it breaks down quickly into harmless chemicals.

The trouble with using a lot of salt is that it washes off into the surrounding soil and can have a detrimental effect on plants in the flower beds, and the lawn.

Kill the weeds off that are there (spray, burn, pull out - your choice) then brush some patio sand into the gaps.

You may have to do a couple of applications to get a full seal but it will inhibit most the weeds.

If the slabs are surrounded by lawn, just mow them? Lawnmower on high setting if you have them. Grass likes being mown and will eventually overtake the weeds in the gaps.
