What is this growing?

Is it a baby lavender? I recently bought and planted a french lavender plant and then this started growing alongside it. I assumed it was a baby lavender, but then the more prickly looking leaves appeared

What is this growing?

It's not lavender, that's for sure. Difficult to tell just yet, as so many seedlings look alike, but the leaves do look a bit like dahlia. More likely to be a weed though.

Its weird. If you look at the leaves underneath the bigger ones, they look the same as the lavender. Then those bigger ones came about and it completely threw me off.

I guess it will be interesting to watch it grow and find out the mystery. But hopefully someone knows because its driving me mad haha

I wouldnt mind it being dahlia though so hopefully you're right!

The first leaves you saw aren't true leaves. They're the cotyledons. The newer leaves are the true leaves and are the ones that should give you an idea of what the seedling is.

After googling, I think the seed leaves/cotyledons are the wrong shape to be a dahlia (they seem to be more rounded from photos). Hopefully you'll get a better idea as it gets bigger.

Ahh thanks. I know absolutely nothing about flowers. I've grown quite fond of the little thing though, somehow. So hopefully it turns into something nice!

Looks a bit like a hibiscus to me!

Groundsel, I think. Both cotyledons and true leaves are the right shape
