I've still got quite a few green tomatoes and some that are just on the turn. Should I strip the plants now and bring the remaining tomatoes inside to ripen? I've read about putting them in a paper bag with a ripe banana or similar. I can't see them getting much more warm sun now....

Unfortunately tomatoes like temperatures above 13 degrees so night time temperatures are too cold now. I’m not sure of the answer as last year ours didn’t ripen and this year we bring them into the kitchen at night (as planted in a window box) and they are ripening beautifully

Shit are you supposed to plant them inside. I have just took all mine in on a sunny windowsill in the conservatory. Going to buy a mini greenhouse next year.

You can grow tomatoes outside and many people do.

I cut whole trusses and leave them on the work surface in the kitchen where they slowly ripen.

I remember one year I had a big bowl of green and yellow tomatoes which didn’t seem to be ripening. It took a while to realise DS1 was helping himself to any ripe tomatoes as he went past

Thanks all. Think I will cut the trusses off as suggested and hope they ripen up - sounds hopeful!

A sunny windowsill is a good place to ripen them. The smaller green ones tend not to ripen very well though, but you can cut them up and freeze them for adding to casseroles etc.
