We have just moved into a house with a huge garden and need help. How much will a gardener cost? We don’t need grass cutting but have lots of beautiful well established plants.

Depends on what you want doing really. Some gardeners charge by the job and others per hour. In this area (SE) expect to pay about £20 an hour.

Mine is also £20 an hour.

You’ll need to be very careful about the qualifications. A great number of people run successful gardening businesses when all they can do is mow grass and trim hedges, because this is what most people want.

If you want someone to care for your plants, they should be able to tell you what each plant is and how and when to prune them.

You may have to pay more for this.

I have a gardener, they have qualifications, I pay £18 per hour. They have good plant knowledge and can give me design ideas, too :)

Generally around £20 is the average per hour nowadays or price per job.Walk a gardener around your garden and ask advice about basic plants before you employ them.Seeking a reference too would be a good idea .Alot of gardeners actually enjoy working with plants and have pride in their work Smile

Here in rural Wales, it's about £13-15 per hour. An acquaintance told us last year that he pays just £70 per day to have his garden tidied/mowed 😮
