What’s wrong with my lavender plant?

And how do I fix it please? I don’t think it’s dead and as it’s the only plant I have, I’d like to keep it alive. Most of the heads are brown. Just a couple add purple. It gets sun from about lunchtime until the sun goes down. Do I just need to water it more? Do I need to put any food in the water?

a larger pot?

Polly99 · 25/09/2021 14:51

It's alive and has finished flowering. Snip off the dead heads and it may come again this year if the weather stays nice. Otherwise it should flower again next year.

It's just finished flowering.
You can leave it (it will get leggy) or cut it back (but not too much as they don't grow that well from old wood).

Do I need a bigger pot? I was hoping to keep it in that one by my front door. If I go bigger I’ll have to move it and there is nowhere nice to put it.

When you say cut it back do I just snip off the brown heads or lower down the stems?

Pot looks fine to me.
You can snip off the heads or cut back harder (but not too hard).

Thank you.

If it’s French lavender - looks like it? - it would be a good idea to wrap it (pot and plant) in fleece over the winter.
Don’t know where you are but I’m in Lancs and my unwrapped Frenchies have never survived a winter up here, even in a fairly sheltered spot.
English lavender is hardier and that does survive.
Good luck Smile

I’m not sure if it’s french Blush I think it came from Lidl if that is any help? I’m in NI. Fleece like a fleecy blanket?

Yes, little jackets like this - you don’t need 4, but this is a good price & you could double wrap it Smile

Still might not make it, depends how cold winter is this year, but it would have a better chance

@GiantKitten
Thanks so much, that’s my dads Christmas present sorted, I never know what to get him.

GiantKitten · 26/09/2021 13:51

@Fairyliz you’re very welcome Smile

(If he has lots of plants to protect, you can also get big rolls of fleece, which would be more cost-effective)

DroopyClematis · 26/09/2021 17:22

You can get rolls of horticultural fleece quite cheaply at garden centres or Amazon.
