Non-flowering Dahlias UPDATE

Following from my post about my Dahlias, I decided to email Sarah Raven,

The reply was that all their Dahlias are really late this year due to the dreadful Spring weather. Ther recommended High Potash to fight disease and phosphate for blooms.

how come Dahlias from the garden centres have all bloomed just fine then?

did they refund you?

I have been very disappointed with the plants I bought from Sarah Raven so much so I will never buy plants again. Though there tulip bulbs are of the best quality.

I was not looking for a refund as they were fine last year.. I just wanted to know if I had done something wrong.

Only one of mine has flowered this year. I have a mixture of new tubers (one of those flowered) and previously reliable old ones. All have healthy foliage but no buds.

I have started to give mine a fortnightly seaweed feed to see if it helps. In my sheltered garden things go on until December. Next year I will buy the Sarah Raven Dahlia feed, I think. I like her, she is one of the few gardening experts that seem to speak sense.

The ones in pots in garden centres will have been forced, in some greenhouse in Holland somewhere, extra heat, masses of fertiliser, you name it.

Not quite the same conditions as you'll find when grown in a normal garden.

Hmmmm. My dahlia tubers from wilko have been absolutely amazing this year. I would be incredibly disappointed if I’d paid Sarah Raven prices and they’d not come up as they should.
