Moles in the garden

We’ve recently acquired a mole or moles in our garden. The little bastard is making three hills every day. So far we have tried…

  1. Mole repellant from the garden centre
  2. Cat litter down the holes (eew)
  3. Leaving well alone and hoping he’ll bugger off elsewhere.

None of the above has made any difference, nor have a couple of the neighbourhood cats keeping a fairly constant vigil round the holes. I’m reluctant to call the mole catcher (I’m expecting it would be some toothless bloke from down the pub who would turn up scratching his groin) and I’ve not seen good reviews of those sonic devices.

Any mole suggestions very gratefully received.

DH tried various things before calling in the mole catcher. Ours turns out to be a most interesting countryman who understands what he's doing, and has a lot of wildlife knowledge. He gave me a full education on some bumbles which were nesting in a bird box which I'd misidentified.
