Slugs all over our grass!

It’s driving me insane. There’s about 30 out there atm and it’s awful. We bring a pup home tomorrow and I’m so worried about it! We have no plants in our garden so not sure what’s attracting them or where they are coming from!

Please ignore the state of our grass, it’s been too wet to mow :(

Get some slug traps - you bait them with beer overnight, the slugs get drunk, fall in and drown.

Grass is a plant. Unless of course you have the plastic sort.

Many slugs don’t eat living plants, they eat rotting dead plants. They’re one of the useful selection of living creatures that save us being swamped by dead stuff.

Some slugs eat other slugs.

Fwiw my parents have had 4 dogs from pups over the years and their garden is very slug ridden. None of the dogs have eaten a slug to our knowledge and none have got lung worm. You'll supervise your pup outside when it's very young in any case. I wouldn't worry too much.

As an aside, one of the dogs used to drink the beer when they tried beer traps... again, no harm came and she lived to a ripe old age, though of course they stopped using them when they clocked her nefarious activities.

I'd be petrified of the dog getting lungworm. I'd be out at night with a torch collecting the buggers.

@userxx I'm just on top of her worming. No chance anyone can collect every slug! At night she goes out on a lead and I have a torch! I will muzzle her on really wet days though. But the wormer protects against lung worm.

I didn't realise there was a preventative for lungworm. Bloody awful things aren't they, I've got loads at the moment.

I put some old bread out for the birds last night .... came down this morning to find bloody loads of big fat slugs feasting on it ... there must have been 50+ in the garden. I've never noticed that before, there's always been the a few but nothing like this year.
