Plant identification

Can anyone help? This large shrub is growing in a very shady corner of our garden (we recently moved here). I think it had one pink flower in spring/early summer. I'm guessing it needs to be moved to a sunnier spot...does anyone recognise it?

Ooo I love a plant identifying question. Pic? Smile

Sorry I don't know this one. I thought at first it might be a mahonia or kerria japonica but I think that was just wishful thinking - the resemblance to either isn't strong enough. Shame you haven't got any pix of the flower OP.

I put it on my plant ID app and it says burning bush. Never heard of it though! Also been told these apps can be inaccurate .

TaraR2020 · 13/09/2021 09:54

I'm no wiser either. My plant app wrongly identified it as a couple of things (the leaves didn't match and none of them grew pink flowers)

TaraR2020 · 13/09/2021 09:55

You could do a Google picture search or put it in Pinterest and search for like images.

Thanks for trying. I thought maybe weigela?

My plant app says Weigela florida which can have pink flowers.

Do an image search with that name & see if it matches the flower you saw earlier.

llambingtime · 13/09/2021 10:05

Thanks. I've been looking at weigela and think that might be the one. It's just way the leaves are growing on the stems that looks wrong. I might have to wait until spring and hope there's another flower.

Xpost Grin love how plant id apps can come up with different results. I have lots saved in the ‘my garden’ bit but really should go back and check with new photos now they’ve grown a bit.
