Advice on planting a tree in a container

I'm about to plant a tree in a large fixed container. The tree is 150-200cm, the container is 100 x 60 cm, 50 cm deep.

Normally I'd not plant a tee of that size straight into a container with those dimensions - I'd then move it up a pot size gradually as it grows. However the container is where I want that tree to be.

Should I just plant it in directly - or is it worth planting it in a smaller pot initially and sinking that into the main container soil. I understand the logic for not planting plants into huge containers but am not sure whether I'm over-examining this! I'm going to be very careful about drainage for the main container - will have lots of pebbles/gravel at the bottom.

Thanks.

I’d be tempted to put straight in but with other plants too. An option is to put in smaller pots in big pot and then gradually pot on.

Thanks @BarbInCarriage. Your second suggestion - do you mean what I'd mentioned in my post (re planting it within its own pot in the container)? Or something else?

Will definitely be other plants in there, some perennials.

What an amazing looking plant! Not heard of it before.
If the final pot is many sizes bigger than it's current one it might be best planting it still in its pot into the big pot, and then every year, potting it up into a size larger until it's ready to go into its final home.

You might need to check some tree site before using a container.

Thanks @longtompot, it is a gorgeous tree. I've actually gone for a different cercis but similar flowers.

@JessieRag Hmm Er thanks. I'm sure I won't be needing them!
