Any blackberries yet?

I usually make quantities of bramble jelly to share with friends. Last year I struggled to find enough berries for one batch; I may have left it late but suspect it was a poor year, at least locally (Midlands),
I can’t get out along the lanes at the moment as DH and I both have Covid, but I’m wondering if people are seeing good yields this year.

We’ve got masses (in the SE) - the ones in sunny spots are finished but there are loads in shadier areas still to come. I’d be surprised if it was too late for you in the Mids. I love bramble jelly! I’ve also made and frozen a lot of blackberry coulis to have with puddings

We've got plenty coming (Midlands) and they are starting to come good so I'd plan to get out there when you can, was hoping for a bit of sun on ours this week but sadly not yet.

I talk about them like they're a crop 😂 this is the bramble hedge around my little field which gets a liberal helping of horse poo in the winter when the gateway is too wet to push the barrow through to collect it up. So it's quite spoilt for a weed but we do make enough jam for the year from it, we trim back anything that looks like it's going for a land grab but otherwise leave it be.

I'm south east too and our blackberries are amazing this year. Absolutely huge and really juicy and sweet. We had a lovely crumble yesterday and I'm going to make a pie next time i go to the stables with both of my girls.

We’re in the northwest and they’re everywhere. We went picking down the canal on Sunday and they were huge and very sweet.

I picked about a pound of big juicy ones last week. Got two bushes that i never managed to get the root out so they just come up every year. This year has definitely been the biggest juiciest crop.

AngusThermopyle · 25/08/2021 08:57

Oh, I'm mid/SE

We're in the south east and DH picked 2 litres in 10 minutes yesterday from the blackberry in the garden! It's blackberries with everything for the next week. They are late this year, though, by a couple of weeks.

Tomatoes, on the other hand, are doing nothing.

Crazy amounts in our garden - I've so far picked about 5kg of them and have made crumbles, cakes, compote and four jars of jelly. The wild hedgerows - nothing much so far. We're in the south.

In London and the crop this year is massive. They're everywhere. I made a crumble and have a pile in the freezer.

GnomeDePlume · 26/08/2021 18:17

Plenty here (East Midlands). So far I have made crumbles, jelly, blackberry vodka. More to come.

lovescats3 · 26/08/2021 18:33

where in London please ?

BareVanilla · 26/08/2021 18:40

They were definitely late this year. Our fondest memories of Lockdown was blackberry picking for around 4 weeks and eating puddings for months! Today we've come back and even though the park gardeners have cut the flaming hedges we've got about a kilo of fat juicy blackberries. SE as well.
