Smelly soil

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right topic for this!

There was a very stinky patch of soil in DP's garden that I think has resulted from anaerobic bacteria, the smell was like rotting teeth/ very bad breath Envy. My main problem is that the stink is on one of my trainers soles and I can't get it out despite the sole looking physically clean. I've tried white vinegar and washing several times in the washing machine.

I've chosen the gardening topic as I thought some gardeners may have had a similar problem. Any tips for getting rid of the awful smell?

Bicarbonate of soda is recommended for fridge smells. Try putting the trainer in a bag with bicarbonate?

My Little Friend pet cage disinfectant spray. I use it in our food waste bin and it seems to be able to get rid of any smell that has permeated into the plastic.
