How do I value a tree for compensation for damage?

A lorry managed to reverse into the tree outside our house and it has completely cracked down the middle and we have been advised by a tree surgeon that it cannot survive. It is (was) a beautiful plum tree which is at least 50 years old and has around 140cm girth. I've been googling replacements but obviously they are all much smaller (max. 12cm girth) so don't reflect its actual value. Any ideas how I can determine a value to claim from the lorry company?

I would contact specialist mature tree nurseries to find a few quotes.

You need to include removal and planting as well as cost of tree.

I would consider adding a value for loss of amenity. Possibly also loss of crops. Though if I were the lorry company I’d be pointing out that plums aren’t long lived and it was nearing the end of its life.

Wow thats a big plum! I dont think I have ever seen a plum tree with a trunk that big. Very upsetting for you!

I would go with @BridgetInHerBravery suggestion
