Speeding up buxus growth!

Hi everyone 👋🏼

I have two smallish buxus bushes that I'd like to grow in containers and two rather large concrete planters - if I plant them in these large containers will they do ok? And will it encourage them to grow larger if they have more room for their roots to take?

Pic of the buxus and planters currently (still in plastic pot!)

I think that you are probably asking for the impossible. You want to speed up growth but at the same time you will be cutting back the box to keep that shape.
You will have to hurry slowly. like all gardeners.Grin

But, yeah, put them in the new pots.

I will say, I bought some fertiliser specifically for box and it has definitely kept them very healthy looking. Not sure it has made them grow much quicker though!

Find a plant food that is particularly high in nitrogen, which promotes leafy growth. You have about until the end of September to feed, and then most things go dormant in the UK and won't need feeding again till spring, when they really start to grow again.

Fertiliser packets have the proportions of N/P/K shown on them, such as 8/17/9. The first number is nitrogen so look for one where it is the largest figure.

Thanks all, I'll use the fertiliser and lay off shaping it until it's a bit bigger. Not too fussed about it being a neat and tidy sphere!
