Brown Turkey Fig in a pot

Do any of you grow a fig tree in a pot? Do you leave it outside during the winter? Any special care?

I'm trying to decide whether to leave ours in a pot or put it in the ground, but with paving slabs in the planting hole to restrict the roots.

Really want it to survive, but unsure what would be best for it. Would really appreciate any advice, thanks :)

I left mine out in a pot all winter for a few years but in a sheltered spot next to the house wall.
I only found out about restricting root growth after I’d planted the thing in the ground.
It’s now huge!

yes mine is in a pot, think one of those old washing tubs about three foot tall. tree is sheltered by two walls and the boiler vents near it.
i found out this year that taking some of the bigger leaves off allowing more sun to hit the fruit is the thing to do

Think I'll try leaving it in the pot and see how it does this winter, it's in a sunny, sheltered spot so fingers crossed it'll be ok. DH bit worried about it getting too big and the roots getting away if we put it in the ground, but I've found pots a bit high maintenance in the past with feeding/watering etc.

my two have survived for about 6 years in pots outside over winter, in the south. but i have badly neglected them which has meant little fruit.....about to give them some tlc. thought they had died this year with all the april frosts but they sprouted leaves much later than usual

Mine is in the ground in a hole lined with paving slabs, but given it's now about 12 ft high and growing about 4ft deep along 10 ft of fence, I suspect it has got its roots free. It's cropping very well, though.

Mine is in a brick built planter thing that used to be a water feature, in a small walled courtyard, and it's fine, there are some nearby that have naturalised in hedges and seem to do ok with no protection. It's a pretty tough variety.
