How can I keep my fountain water clean?

I have ordered a small water feature with a bowl and small fountain. I am sure the dog and cat will drink the water and it would be nice for the birds as well. Can I keep the water clean without lots of toxic chemicals?

One of these maybe? It’s safe for fish so hope it would be ok for other animals

We use food grade hydrogen peroxide, dilute into the water. Safe for animals and the birds that decided to bath in it. Also very cheap.

How small? We have similar (wide bowl, solar fountain). The water doesn't really get much of a chance to go green - it evaporates before then! We are forever topping it up. The birds love it, though, for drinking and bathing.

It will go in a shady part of the garden which should reduce evaporation. 52cm diameter bowl, maybe about 10 litres of water.

Cats and dogs seem to prefer puddles!
