Campanula and pruning/cutting back.

Another question. Two big campanula which were beautiful in bloom but have clearly been untended in the previous years (recently moved here). They’ve ‘gone over’ now and look really manky. I want to give them a good hard prune but am I going to kill them by doing that?
Thanks

Big little campanulasGrin
Well, I cut mine hard and have to pull out handfuls to stop it taking over so I very much doubt you'll kill them. Cut off all those long straggly stems.

Stupidly I hadn’t even tried and I took a handful and the flowering stems just pulled out neatly. They were about 3ft wide. Now about 1ft and much tidier.

I really must get braver with these things!

We have lots of campanula, I’ve just pulled all this year’s growth off the garden wall, leaving not much plant left. Pretty sure that’s what we do to it every year - it grows loads and is fairly hardy so will likely forgive you.

I pull our low campanula out in armfuls in around May every year. It gets incredibly bushy and trails everywhere otherwise.
