Millions of tiny flies

We've just bought a new house with a big garden. Went to get DS's toys in last night and there were literally millions of horrendous little flies buzzing around! So many I felt I was getting them in my mouth as I walked. Is there anything I can do? Thanks!

Probably flying ants, its only for a day or two each summer.

They all hatch at the same time from a nest probably in the lawn - if it is flying ants. Then they are gone.

Thanks so much. These are tiny tiny flies, a bit like you see buzzing round lights, but just everywhere!

Midges?

EverythingDelegated · 20/07/2021 07:58

Yes, we get them by the million at this time of year, we have several ant nests in the garden, its horrible but it really is just a couple of days in the height of summer. Have you noticed little piles of soil appearing in your lawn, like mini molehills? Or piles of sand appearing on your block paving? Those are the ant nests.

Yes more like midges I would say. Are there midges in London?

Are you near any standing water, ponds etc? That could lead to midges wherever you are I think.

Not that I know of... will see if they're still around today! Thanks all
